A PERFECT STORM OF ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE
Conclusion 9/15/2011
Back to Myth # 4
While state and federal agencies promote the myth that the emergence of wide spread antibiotic resistant bacteria is a
result of inappropriate use of antibiotics in human medicine and excessive use of antibiotics in animal agriculture, the
foregoing research documents tell a much different story. Experts fail to publicly acknowledge that some bacteria
produce antibiotics and other bacteria develop a natural resistance to them. This was illustrated by early researchers
who grew bacterial cultures in the laboratory on antibiotic media.
Experts also fail to publicly acknowledge that while chlorine, toxic metals, UV Light and radiation damages bacterial cells,
these elements also contribute to the natural selection of antibiotic resistant bacteria. For the past 30+ years
researchers have been modifying bacteria with antibiotic resistant genes and releasing them into the environment.
Hospitals also release antibiotic resistant organisms into the environment through their sewage.
The main sources are through sewage effluent and sludge contaminated with antibiotic resistant bacteria that are
spread on agricultural land and used as fertilizer on our lawns and gardens. Studies have shown that the treatment
process in sewage treatment and drinking water plants is not effective in destroying bacteria, but instead actually create
antibiotic resistant bacteria.
All antibiotic resistant organisms and DNA particles end up in our air, soil, water and food through antibiotic resistant
contaminated reclaimed sewage effluent (reclaimed water) and sludge (biosolids) as fertilizer on agricultural land and
even your lawn and garden. The end result is the government experts feed us myths and hope we never find the truth
as the antibiotic resistance continues to build and spread around the world.
The solution to stopping the perfect storm of antibiotic resistance in the community, and around the world, is to stop
putting antibiotic resistant genes in genetically modified organisms (GMOs), stop disposing of laboratory created GMOs
into the sewer, and most importantly, for state and federal agencies to quit promoting treated GMO and metals
contaminated water and sludge on grazing land, food crops, parks, school grounds, home lawns and gardens. It is time
we hold the government experts accountable for creating the problem and failing to address the solution.
