SEIU MEMO
SEIU is targeting the largest producer in the country, Synagro Technologies, as part of their private equity work.
Synagro is owned by Carlyle Group, a DC-based PE firm. On 12/17 SEIU launched this campaign with a press release,
action and website (www.CarlyleExposed.org
<http://www.carlyleexposed.org/>) and have a campaign plan through the spring. In terms of demands, they will likely
ask that Carlyle/Synagro adhere to a good neighbor policy with community stakeholders where plants are located.
We believe that community expertise on the impacts on sludge will be an important contribution to their campaign.
Attached is some of the information – a backgrounder on Synagro, the press release, and a leaflet that SEIU wants to
share with you in the hope that interested groups can share their wisdom and, if interested, collaborate in this work
either because they are working on sludge campaigns or have encountered Synagro in their communities.
Please let me know if you are interested or contact Inga Skippings, SEIU, directly if you’d like to get involved. Inga is at:
